Cardamom has a warm, sweet and spicy aroma; therefore it’s widely used in Indian cuisine and in some European recipes as well.
Breathing difficulties such as asthma: diffuse the oil to bring relief to the condition. Cardamom oil has shown positive effects as it helps open up the airways leading to the lungs.
Depression or exhaustion: diffuse the oil in order to provide an energizing boost and a give a balancing, harmonizing fragrance to your surroundings. This pungent and exotic oil can also be diffused or inhaled another way by applying a few drops of oil to your palms and breathing deeply. Its aroma can also improve low self-esteem and re-balances the senses.
Aphrodisiac, especially for men: add a few drops of cardamom oil to a carrier oil such as sweet almond to create a warming and sensuous massage oil.
Coughs and colds: again, use diluted as a massage oil to act as a decongestant, warm the body and act as a general tonic.
Respiratory issues: to ease ailments like whooping cough and asthma, inhale the oil directly from the palms, use with a nebulizer or dilute in a carrier base oil and apply to the affected area.
Nausea and vomiting, especially after too much rich food: mix a few drops with a carrier oil and massage gently on the stomach.
Urinary tract infections, such as cystitis: add a few drops to a warm bath to alleviate these troublesome conditions.
Bad breath: combine a few drops of cardamom oil with water to kill bacteria which causes oral problems such as bad breath. The spicy oil can also help toothache pain when used in a similar way. Do not swallow the mixture, however.
Nausea and vomiting, especially after too much rich food: a drop mixed in water has a calming effect on the stomach.
Cardamom has a sweet taste with an enticing aroma so it's been used for centuries to jazz up teas, coffee, chai lattes, and cocktail drinks. Pour 2-3 drops of Cardamom oil into your favorite drink. It's also delicious in cakes and pastries, and in Indian, Middle Eastern, and Scandinavian cuisines. Replace the spice in any recipe with 2-3 drops of oil for a more intense aroma.
Unlike the spice, which only lasts a couple of months to a year, the essential oil will have a lasting aroma for much longer, which means it will save you more money in the long run or having to run to the store when you need it for a recipe.
EXTRA TIP: if you live in a colder climate and/or find it harder to drink enough water on a daily basis especially during winter, try flavoring your warm (or not) water with 2-3 drops of Cardamom oil. You will be so pleased with the aromatic taste of your water, it will make you drink more.
Only USDA-certified organic oils have been deemed as safe for ingestion by FDA, so please be sure to use only CERTIFIED ORGANIC OILS, especially for internal use. All our essential oils are USDA organic.
Oil Specific: non-toxic, non-irritant, non-sensitizing.
General: keep out of reach of children and pets. Not for internal use unless taken under the supervision or recommendation of an aromatherapist professional. Do not use undiluted on skin, eyes, or mucous membranes; it could cause allergic reactions. Always test first on a small portion of your skin. If you are pregnant, consult with a healthcare provider/ professional experienced with essential oils as some essential oil are less tolerated while others are well loved by pregnant women.
Storage and Handling: the shelf life of ESSENTIAL OILS is usually around 1 year after they're opened, and up to 2 years when unopened. All essential oils oxidize and are subject to lose their therapeutic value and aromatic quality in time. Essential oils benefit from proper storage and handling. Avoid keeping essential oils in a location that is prone to sudden temperature changes such as the bathroom or kitchen. Store them in a cool, dark place, away from heat and light.
