The best part of the holidays is that you get to spend more time with family and loved ones. You all get to snuggle up by the Christmas tree with presents and share stories and memories from the year and years past. You can’t replace that warm feeling in your gut that you have when you’re surrounded by the ones you love and a mug of hot cocoa only makes the season all the merrier. Mix up the festivities a little bit by adding a special kick to this traditional drink, making it the healthiest mug of cocoa in your home this season!
Our Hot Cocoa recipe with essential oils is super delicious and will add to the magic of the season with all its many health benefits. For this recipe, you have the option of choosing from three essential oils that we recommend which are Peppermint, Orange, and Cinnamon, which are the most popular flavors for the holidays.
Peppermint oil is our favorite for this recipe because you get to replace the commercially produced candy canes with something 100% natural and good for your health. This oil is also known to work as a powerful decongestant and suppresses your appetite (who doesn’t need a little help especially during the holidays with so many temptations around).
Orange oil is a perfect substitute if you aren’t a huge peppermint fan and has an equally beneficial impact on your health. Being a known carminative and diuretic, the addition of this oil to your recipe will keep your health in check in no time.
Lastly, Cinnamon oil compliments the flavor of this cocoa wonderfully. The warm and spicy aromas of this oil are the perfect contrast to the sweetness of the cocoa; it can improve your metabolism and works as a great antimicrobial agent.
This recipe for our essential oils hot cocoa will blow you away! The best part is how easy is to make and how healthy it is ! Take the stress out this holiday with our fast and simple recipe, which means you can enjoy more time with your family and your loved ones.
Time: 5 minutes
Makes: 5 cups
In a saucepan, combine sugar and salt. Add milk and bring to a boil, then lower the temperature, add raw cacao and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and stir in vanilla. Whisk until frothy and BOOM! There is your perfect mug of hot cocoa.
TIP: To top it off, when you’re ready to pour the drink, ONLY then add 1-maximum 2 drops of any of these essential oils based on each person’s taste preference to their individual mugs-either peppermint, cinnamon, or orange, but not all. And that’s how you’ve added a healthy and delicious twist to this classic holiday drink.
When cooking with essential oils we only recommend using USDA Certified Organic Essential Oils because it’s the only way to ensure that they are free from pesticides, GMOs, and artificial fertilizers! TIP: when you’re heating ingredients in any recipe, we also recommend adding the oils to your recipes towards the end as heat and light are the two enemies of essential oils, which destroy their therapeutic effectiveness.
And here’s a secret that nobody knows: in the process of drying herbs, many molecules of oils found in plants evaporate, which means dry herbs have less therapeutic benefits than oils, which are the concentrated essence of the plant. That means you get numerous health benefits from using 1-2 drops of essential oils but not from the fresh or dry herbs unless you consume 10 times more the quantity you normally use in recipes. And this is WHY we prefer to use essential oils. Oh, and did we mentioned that the flavor and the aroma of any recipes using essential oils vs herbs are so much more intense?! Oh, yes!
This recipe for hot cocoa with essential oils is the perfect addition to any friendly gathering and will make them for a perfect conversation piece to get your night off to a good start. It is so frothy and delicious and truly embodies the Christmas spirit. Spread the gift of health through the favorite foods and drinks you share while you are enjoying time with your loved ones!
